Yellows go the Green Way again - planting trees becomes tradition for Maritza

For a second year in a row, the players and the staff of VC Maritza Plovdiv joined efforts with the city mayor Ivan Totev, other local politicians, sports celebrities, journalists and ordinary citizens in a tree-planting event at Plovdiv’s oldest Lauta Park.
In less than one hour, a total of 30 maple and 70 linden trees were planted on an extension area of the park and Mayor Totev promised the number would rise from 100 to 500 by April. The participants in the campaign were pleasantly surprised to see a pheasant stroll across the nearby grove, which is the result of last year’s event.
Bulgaria’s volleyball national champions, national cup holders and Super Cup holders from Maritza were in the distinguished company of taekwondo world champion Mirela Chilingirova and European indoor silver medallist – triple jumper Gabriela Petrova. On the day before their important 2016 CEV Volleyball Cup match against Germany’s Schweriner SC, the Yellows sacrificed some training time and, instead of practicing their digging on the court, they did some real digging in the field.
“We have already made arrangements with the Plovdiv municipality to always participate in this kind of campaigns,” explained Boris Halatchev, manager of VC Maritza. “We did it last year in line with CEV’s new campaign Volleyball Way. Green Way, and now it is already turning into a tradition, which will continue in the future. This is an important cause with a social effect and we want to set a good example for the young generation and society as a whole.”
